Quicki Wiki
The concept of Wiki is better than blogs in my opinion. I think that blogs can be redundant and self focused rather than content, and wiki alters the focus while still allowing for sharing and commenting. The econ teacher who created a Wikinomics site creates a great premice for the tool. My only question is what happens at the end of the year, and the next wave of students needs the opportunity to create their own wiki. Do you wipe it clean, create a new one, or is there a way to database the page so it is always available for someone to access?

You have great questions. I want to know the answeres too. I agree with you that blogs can be self-focused, rather than content-focused.
ReplyDeleteI agree...good questions. I also think that wikis may be a tad more useful than blogs. It should be fairly easy to wipe a wiki clean each year.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that wikis seem like a more useful classroom tool than blogs for us as elementary school teachers. I can envision many more ways to successful incorporate a wiki than blogging; it seems more relevant to the age groups we will have. I think you have a good question about what happens to the class wikis. What I would probably do is save it to use as an example for the incoming class, but start a completely new site with them so they can go through the entire process as the other class did.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good idea, Heather, to save the previous years wiki as an example for the next class. I also agree that wikis seem a lot more useful to our particular aged students.
